After Outage, Some Wells Fargo Customers Can’t See Paychecks, Use Cards

Wells Fargo branches to remain open later after system issues

"We are aware of an issue regarding the processing of direct deposit into Wells Fargo accounts".

In a release just before midnight Thursday Pacific time, Wells said these systems are working: ATMs; mobile and online banking except for features such as credit card and mortgage balances; credit and debit cards and branch banks.

The outage is said to have occurred in early US morning and Wells Fargo is in process of recovering its services nationwide.

"We continue to work on restoring all our services as soon as possible, and encourage customers to contact us if they have questions or concerns", the bank's release said.

Wells Fargo responded to some Twitter users that it was aware of an issue regarding direct deposit payments. The transactions were processed normally, and customers can use their accounts with confidence.

However, the transition did not go as planned and customers complained that they were unable to access online and mobile banking, and some reported they were unable or restricted in their ability to withdraw cash.

Customers are also threatening to leave Wells Fargo over the outages and are anxious about the safety of their money with the bank.

At this point, Wells Fargo ATM services have been restored.

The San Francisco-based bank said the issues were caused by an automatic power shutdown at one of its main data-center facilities-which was triggered by a smoke condition from routine building maintenance.

"I apologize to our customers and team members for the inconvenience caused by yesterday's system issues", Wells Fargo CEO and President Tim Sloan said in a statement.

The consensus was their direct deposits were in their accounts, but that information wasn't reflected online. The bank has been plagued with scandals over its sales practices, attaching insurance contracts to auto loans that did not need it, and putting homes into foreclosure where it shouldn't have happened.
