Director Bryan Singer’s nomination for Sunday’s Bafta awards ceremony was suspended

Director Bryan Singer’s nomination for Sunday’s Bafta awards ceremony was suspended

Wickedly amusing royal comedy-drama The Favourite lived up to its name Wednesday, leading the race for the British Academy Film Awards...

At the same time, Bafta announced changes in its membership process created to increase the percentage of women and ethnic minorities, after an anonymous membership survey in January 2016 found that 41% were female, 13% minority ethnic, and that the median age was 52.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" received seven BAFTA film nominations in all. "But the lack of female directors nominated in the directing category is very disappointing".

Still, the allegations did not prevent "Bohemian Rhapsody" from being nominated in the Outstanding British Film category.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" may win a BAFTA, but it looks like the film's director, Bryan Singer, won't.

"Bafta considers the alleged behaviour completely unacceptable and incompatible with its values. The suspension of his nomination will therefore remain in place until the outcome of the allegations has been resolved". Those nominations all remain in place, but the name of Singer, who stood alongside Graham King and Anthony McCarten in the nod for best British film, has been removed, reports variety.com.

Back in 2016, Bryan Singer was announced as the director of the film.

There are varying stories as to what eventually led to Singer being fired a few days later. The awards are this Sunday in London.

Bryan has denied the claims and told BBC that the allegations were a "homophobic smear" to destroy the success of the Queen film.

Further allegations of sexual assault and misconduct were made against Singer in a piece in The Atlantic a couple of weeks ago, prompting the film's removal as a best original film nominee at this year's GLAAD Media Awards.
