The folks behind the Alliance of American Football agree, and as such, the nascent league will make its debut on Saturday evening.

The AAF earned the same overnight rating as ABC's competing Thunder-Rockets NBA regular season game.

There are a few notable players on the rosters, especially for college football fans. Those 8 AAF teams are: Arizona Hotshots, Atlanta Legends, Birmingham Iron, Memphis Express, Orlando Apollos, Salt Lake Stallions, San Antonio Commanders, San Diego Fleet.

Wolford threw four touchdowns passes - two to Rashad Ross - as the Hotshots (1-0) turned a three-point halftime lead into a comfortable season-opening victory on the strength of a 16-0 third-quarter surge.

If today's games are anything like last night's, there will be plenty of heavy hits, mic'd up refs, and fast-paced play.

The quality of play is comparable to the second halves of preseason games, with players who look like they're about good enough to be on National Football League practice squads.

The league's first games, which aired Saturday on CBS, averaged 2.913 million viewers, according to Sports TV Ratings.

Granted the National Basketball Association is insisting that the Rockets and Thunder game also earned a 2.1, not the 2.0 Rovell reported, but that is not such a difference that throws any shade on the new AAF, certainly.
