Is Hillsong church really anti-LGBT

Avengers star Chris Pratt has taken to Instagram to share a lengthy response after X-Men star Ellen Page recently called the actor out for attending a church that is famously anti-LGBTQ. Here's what he had to say!

This all started last week when Ellen Page reacted to a tweet from Hollywood Reporter about Chris stopping by on The Late Show and opening up about his spiritual side. "But his church is infamously anti lgbtq so maybe address that too?"

And that was not all!

She later doubled down, tweeting, "If you are a famous actor and you belong to an organization that hates a certain group of people, don't be surprised if someone simply wonders why it's not addressed. Being anti LGBTQ is wrong, there aren't two sides". The damage it causes is severe.

"It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which "hates a certain group of people" and is 'infamously anti-LGBTQ.' Nothing could be further from the truth", he wrote. "I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone", he wrote above the original message about loving one another.

The actor then went on to explain that the religious community he is part of actually helped him a lot through his divorce process despite the fact that the Bible is against the mere idea of a married couple separating. Chris attends the Zoe Church, an offshoot of the Hillsong Church and has been open with how deeply important his faith is to him.

"My values define who I am", he continued. "I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man". "Full stop. Sending love to all".

"Jesus said, 'I give you a new command, love one another, '" he wrote. "This is what guides me in my life". He is a God of love, acceptance and forgiveness. "Hate has no place in my or this world", Pratt concluded. "Much love truly to all". Zoe Church's founder Chad Veach told the NYT that he modeled his ministry after Hillsong.

Senior pastor Brian Houston at Hillsong previously said in a 2015 statement that the church does "not affirm a gay lifestyle".
