Pompeo visits Hungary, to raise concerns about China, Russia



Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned US allies on Monday against deploying equipment from Chinese telecoms gear manufacturer Huawei on their soil, saying it would make it more hard for Washington to "partner alongside them".

Hungary's birth rate is below average when compared to other European countries, according to a Eurostat survey done in 2018.

Europe's left-wing has become "the gravedigger of nations, the family and the Christian way of life", Mr Orban said.

Pompeo's remarks came after US President Donald Trump missed a Congressional deadline to reply by Friday on whether Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the killing of the Post columnist.

Pompeo will take the same message to his next stop, Slovakia, on Tuesday, before heading to Poland, where he will participate in a conference on the future of the Middle East expected to focus on Iran.

He said the USA would continue to take "more action, continue our investigation", and would continue to hold accountable all those responsible for the murder. He will wrap up the tour with brief stops in Belgium and Iceland.

One official said Pompeo's aim is to "wrong-foot the West's rivals in places where they have gained bridgeheads". Over the course of the past 10 years, he said, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leaders have become much more aggressive in the region and made inroads.

Orban, who has made "zero tolerance" for immigration his main theme in the past four years and was elected to a third consecutive term in April, said the initiative is meant to "ensure the survival of the Hungarian nation".

"This is the Hungarians" answer, not immigration, ' Mr Orban said.

Pompeo put the blame for much of the backsliding on a lack of U.S. engagement.
