A bit of a temper tantrum?

The Huskies lost their first Pac-12 game on Saturday night, a 75-63 defeat at Arizona State that snapped a 12-game winning streak.

"Some of it was childish on my part, a little bit frustrated with our ability to make shots on Thursday night", Hurley said. The Huskies are flawless in Pac-12 play and have won 12 straight games overall. USC is one of the other four teams in second place.

The players complained, but the tactic worked.

The Sun Devils (16-7, 7-4) defense was stout from the opening tip, as they held Washington (19-5, 10-1) to an nearly 37 shooting percentage from the field. Arizona is 0-4 ATS in their last four versus the Pac-12 and the over is 5-0 in their last five Saturday games.

The upgrade could be due to an unusual coaching maneuver by Hurley, who barred his team from launching in a single shot in practice Friday.

Washington had trouble getting going on the offense side in the first half. "Guys knew what was at stake, how important this game was". He finished with nine points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and two steals in 34 minutes.

Washington State's win over Arizona State was a nice effort all around.

But the Huskies will have their hands full in the next game against a Cougars team that did what UW was unable to do and won two games in Arizona.

"Once we get it figured out, which we did, we're a pretty good team", Franks said. Five Huskies reached double figures in scoring, paced by David Crisp's game-high 17 points. "We were throwing stuff against the wall, seeing what would stick".

Washington State comes into this one with a 9-14 record overall.

Franks had 21 first-half points on 7-of-9 shooting, 5-for-6 3-pointers.

About halfway through the first half, WSU led 15-7. Huskies coach Mike Hopkins called a timeout less than a minute into the half, pounding his chest and yelling "Show some heart!" after no one boxed out White on a putback.

Washington still couldn't put up much of a fight against the energized Sun Devils, who used a 9-0 run to push the lead to 50-32.

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team may not be dealing with a winter storm on their road trip in Arizona, but they still didn't have a good night.

"We fought for the entire game, never gave up", Dickerson said. "It shows what we're capable of and the potential there if we could just harness that somehow and bottle it and bring it everywhere we go". The Huskies, thanks to the best defense in the Pac-12, were able to stay in the game.

The Sun Devils played like they needed to in a must-win situation, keeping themselves in the NCAA Tournament conversation.

Washington struggled mightily from the three-point line. The junior guard shot 2 of 15 and missed all seven of his 3-point attempts against the Cougars. If they wanted to find their way back into the NCAA Tournament's field of 64, they would need to respond in a big way Saturday.
