On the day of a march to call for his release, 21 Savage has become a free man. TMZ reports 21 was released on bond pending a deportation hearing.

On Tuesday afternoon, 21 Savage's legal team said in a statement that the rapper had been granted released from custody on bail and was being placed into expedited deportation proceedings.

The rep continued, "He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country". And asks for your hearts and minds to be with them'.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said the British citizen had overstayed his visa and has a felony conviction.

A petition demanding 21 Savage's release was signed by more than 460,000 people - with Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z and Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez among those backing the campaign for his freedom.

The rapper was arrested early in February, with authorities saying his visa was expired. The attorney maintained the government knew about his immigration status as he had a 2017 U-visa application pending approval. As 21 Savage, the rapper contributed to one of the most-celebrated songs of the night - "This Is America", which won multiple awards including Record of the Year - and was a featured artist on the Post Malone hit "Rockstar", also nominated for Record of the Year, which Malone performed during the ceremony.

21 Savage issued a statement and thanked his fans for their support. In "Bank Account", for example, he raps that he is "straight up out the 6". "My best friend who died, his uncle had a whole lot of dope money, so he started buying me studio sets and s**t", 21 Savage said.

While chatting with Seth Rogen for an Interview magazine feature, the "Whole Lot" rapper said that while recovering from his injuries, he spent a lot of time in the studio. The rapper's representatives say the conviction was expunged.

His latest album was released last month and spent the first two weeks of 2019 atop the Billboard 200.
