Riviera is where a 16-year-old Woods made his PGA Tour debut on a sponsor exemption.

On Wednesday morning, Tiger Woods revealed when he would take the course next. Riviera also is the PGA Tour course he has played the most times - nine - without winning.

The Arnold Palmer Invitational, which the late golf legend founded in 1979 at this Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Florida, and the the Memorial Tournament, which Nicklaus began in 1976 at a course he designed near his Columbus, Ohio, home, are events that operate in a similar fashion.

"I played well that day, I shot 64 so I enjoyed the way I played". I've always enjoyed watching him play, how he's developed and the amount of tournaments he's won and the majors and the margins he's won.

The WGC-Mexico Championship will mark Woods' third start of the 2018-19 PGA TOUR Season.

Woods gets another crack in what figures to be cold, wet conditions because of another storm system that is likely to linger through the opening round.

"I haven't really played a lot overseas and I turned the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia down last summer", Woods told reporters on the eve of the US PGA Tour's Genesis Open. "So I'm in a very different position now, having played an entire season - I know what my body can and cannot do and so I'm looking forward to this week. So hopefully I can do a little bit better this year". He is in the same group as Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy, just like past year, when Woods missed the cut for the only time in 2018 at a regular PGA Tour event.

The field is stacked, though it is missing the top two players in the world ranking as Justin Rose and Brooks Koepka are taking the week off.

So does Bubba Watson, the defending champion and a three-time victor, though his main infatuation is that it's not far from Hollywood and all the movie stars.
