Collins has idolized Sean Taylor, the late, outstanding Washington safety, almost his entire life and wore No. 21 with the Giants in homage.

Mike Francesa couldn't believe his ears when he learned Monday that former Giants safety Landon Collins is reportedly signing a six-year, $84 million contract with the Washington Redskins.

New teammate and fellow defensive back Josh Norman tweeted out his feeling about Collins's reported deal shortly after the news broke. Norman signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Redskins in 2016 when Gettleman, then the Carolina Panthers GM, chose to remove the franchise tag from him. A strong tackler, Collins has been a great National Football League starter over the course of the past four years and has totaled a whopping 428 tackles over that span.

He underwent surgery late past year and is expected to be cleared for football drills this offseason.

Of the $84 million, $45 million is guaranteed and paid out over the first three years of the deal, adds Rapoport.

Collins' deal should be good news for Earl Thomas, Adrian Amos and Tyrann Mathieu, the other top safeties on the market, who each are more valuable in pass coverage than Collins.

Collins has eight career interceptions but did not record one this past season. The 2015 second-rounder has been named to the Pro Bowl the past three seasons and finished a year ago with 96 tackles in 12 games.
