The UN Human Rights Council adopted a report critical of Israel over its handling of the violent events along the Gaza border over the past year.

Israeli occupation forces have opened fire on the Palestinians protesting along the fence that separates the besieged Gaza Strip and the Israeli-occupied territories, killing two and injuring 55 others.

The Council condemned "all violations of human rights and of worldwide humanitarian law" and expressed concern over widespread destruction, death and human suffering in Palestine, including East Jerusalem.

The top United Nations human rights body on Friday requested a larger presence in Palestinian areas following an investigation that found Israeli soldiers may have committed war crimes in a deadly response to Gaza protests past year.

The vote was 23 states in favour, eight against, with 15 abstentions and one delegation absent.

"The targeting of civilians is a serious matter that should not be condoned", said Ibrahim Khraisi, ambassador for the Palestinians, citing the report's findings.

On March 19, Israel's acting foreign minister, Israel Katz wrote to foreign minister Sushma Swaraj asking for India's support "given the significant relationship and friendship between our countries and the outrageous bias of this report".

The Israeli bullets and tear gas canisters wounded 181 Palestinian civilians, including 53 Children, 5 Women, 1 Paramedic, and 3 Journalists.

The Israeli regime's ambassador, Aviva Raz Shechter, said the voting had been marked by 'bias against Israel'.

The United States does not participate, having quit the body previous year over perceived anti-Israel bias.

Israel believes the so-called "Accountability" resolution said the Council pronounced judgment against Israel without instituting a commission of inquiry as promised, instead condemned Israel for "disproportionate use of force".

The Marches of Return won't stop until Israel ends 12 years of blockade which had been imposed on the coastal enclave since 2017, said the Islamic Hamas movement who rules the Gaza Strip.

According to the commission of inquiry, fewer than 30 of those killed were "members of Palestinian organized armed groups", adding that Israeli troops' use of live fire was only justified in very few cases in which they faced an immediate threat to life.

"Our decision to abstain reflects our concerns and balanced position".
