Soni Methu former CNN ‘Inside Africa’ host dies at 34 Soni Methu

Kenyan journalist and former host of CNN's "Inside Africa", Soni Methu has died at the age of 34.

According to CNN, Methu's sister, Faith Methu, said the former Inside Africa host collapsed suddenly yesterday after suffering stomach pains.

She was rushed to the hospital but was immediately pronounced dead. "We don't know much but a postmortem will be done to tell exactly what happened", wrote Faith.

As CNN reported, an autopsy will be completed to determine Soni's cause of death.

Her family says she succumbed to stomach complications on Thursday evening after a sudden illness.

Soni moved from CNN to CGTN early 2016 when her former employer changed the format of her show Inside Africa to have no presenter.

Methu was very proud to be the first Kenyan host of "Inside Africa", and was passionate about presenting her homeland to the world.

'We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and former colleague Soni Methu, ' CNN said in a statement.

Soni was working as a reporter at Chinese-owned network CGTN at the time of her death.

She was described as an employee who had an ability to light up the room and was incredibly kind to those she worked with as well as people she met in her travels.

She then became the East African correspondent for South Africa's eNCA from where CNN tapped her in 2014.
