While disappointed, the Englishman was glad it was Tiger Woods who came out on top to win his fifth Green Jacket.

"I was just trying to plod my way through the course all day". All of a sudden I had the lead.

If players are able to finish their final rounds and a champion is determined Sunday, patrons won't get to see the traditional green jacket ceremony, in which the previous year's victor (in this case, Patrick Reed) slips a green jacket on the new champion. And when I made the putt I don't know what I did but I screamed.

" To have my kids there, it's come full circle". And now I'm the dad [and the kids are here].

"It will be up there with one of the hardest with all I've had to win because of what transpired in the last couple of years", added Woods.

"He became Tiger Woods of old". Woods last won at Augusta in 2005, while Gary Player had 13 years between his 1961 and 1974 wins.

"Jack Nicklaus is the greatest champion - there's no doubt about that".

"My mum was here and she was here in 97 as well". And what a remarkable return it was for Tiger Woods. As it turned out the end was indeed nigh, an 11-year wait for a 15th major finally over.

After winning his first green jacket in 1997, Woods shared the joyous moment with his father Earl, who pulled him into a huge embrace.

Woods held a share of the lead for stretches during the final round but didn't take the outright lead until a birdie at the 15th hole.

In a desperate attempt to get the season's first major across the finish line before the storm hit, officials pushed up start times and sent golfers off in threesomes from both the first and 10th tees.

Fallen hero, crippled star, and now a Masters champion again.

Woods was met by his mother Kultida and his children Charlie and Sam, and shared a highly emotional moment which brought back echoes of the past.
