Former Tory Chairman Patrick McLoughlin has launched a verbal assault on staunch Brexit candidates, warning that their "ideological" sympathy for a "no-deal" Brexit is "reckless".

He added: "In terms of policy, there's no difference [between the Brexit Party and Ukip], but in terms of personnel there is a vast difference".

"Now many, many thousands of people who are in UKIP and supported Nigel are still there, so he is talking about those people, who supported him".

"We are a great nation and a great people, but we are being held back by weak leadership in Westminster. What he's saying Andrew is a complete smear". "I shouldn't be here, you shouldn't be here, this shouldn't be happening, we should have left the European Union. I think politics is broken". "We won't stand for it, we won't stand for it!"

Nigel Farage whipped up hardline Eurosceptics into a frenzy today as he vowed his new Brexit Party would cause an natural disaster among "the career political class".

He said: 'Fundamental change, taking on and beating the establishment are not things that happen because decent people nod their head and say "I agree with that".

Seventy candidates have been put forward by the Brexit Party for the European Elections according to Farage, with the surprise inclusion of Annunziata Rees-Mogg, the sister of pro-Brexit Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.

"Defining ourselves as the Brexit party, pursuing the hardest form of Brexit with a parliament that will not deliver it, is a recipe for paralysis in government and suicide with the electorate".

Speaking at the launch of the Brexit Party's Euro campaign at a factory in Coventry, Ms Rees-Mogg told cheering supporters: "I joined the Conservative Party in 1984 and this is not a decision I have made lightly - to leave a party for which I have fought at every election since 1987, from Maggie Thatcher through to Theresa May. I did actually, rather stupidly, for a moment believe that we'd won", Mr Farage said.
