Yellow alert: Met Éireann warns of significant rainfall and spot flooding in Limerick

Meanwhile, there's a Status Yellow wind warning in place for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

Met Éireann has extended its weather alerts with either Status Orange or Yellow warnings now in place for wind or rain for much of Ireland on Sunday and Monday.

"Our most prescient warning is for Cork and Waterford and there are concerns about possible flooding and hazardous driving conditions". A spell of heavy rain will arrive through Saturday night and Sunday followed by a second spell of heavy rain later on Sunday night and Monday will give more significant rainfall amounts.

The two warnings come into effect at 7pm on Saturday and will stay in place until Monday evening at 6pm.

A status yellow warning for similar but less severe conditions is in place for the western half of the country.

Met Éireann says there is a risk of spot flooding, especially in southern parts of these counties.

The warnings - one Status Orange and three Status Yellow alerts - are valid from today, Sunday, April 14, through to tomorrow evening.

Strong and gusty south-east winds are expected during the period, with mean speeds of 50 to 65kph and gusts of 90 to 110kph; these will be strongest in coastal areas and about high ground.

A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Tonight will be windy with fresh to strong, gusty southeast winds".

Rain will become persistent and heavy in the south and west this evening and overnight. Lowest temperatures 3 to 5 degrees.

Temperatures will reach 10C in the afternoon in eastern areas and up to 15C in the west.

Tuesday night will be cold with possibly some mist or patchy fog developing in places and a touch of grass frost locally.

It is predicting that we'll get some very nice days with sun and temperatures of up to 20 degrees.

For the rest of the week, apart from a few light showers, it's set to be mainly dry with sunny spells. Night-time temperatures will be around 5 to 8 degrees.
