A Fordham University student was critically injured in a fall from the clock tower in Keating Hall

Sydney Monfries was climbing the Keating Clock tower about 3 a.m. when the fall occurred on the Bronx, New York, campus of the Jesuit university.

A Fordham University student who fell about 30 feet from inside a clock tower early Sunday has died, school officials said.

School officials confirmed the letter to The Post.

Monfries, 22, fell from the clock tower after ascending a staircase inside early Sunday with friends to touch its bell and snap photos of the city, police said. Emergency responders rushed her to St. Barnabas Hospital to try to save her.

The school said Monfries will get receive her bachelor's degree posthumously.

Investigators say the student apparently climbed into the tower with friends. "He told me some seniors [wanted to go] to the tower to take some pictures and have a good time before graduating". Sydney's family along with two priests rush to the hospital soon as they received the devastating news.

"There are no words sufficient to describe the loss of someone so young and full of promise - and mere weeks from graduation", university President Joseph M. McShane, said in a statement.

It was reported that Sydney may have been participating in a "rite of passage".

Sydney Paige Monfries, 22, from Portland, Oregon, suffered fatal injuries following the horror plunge at Fordham University campus in NY, weeks before graduation.

However the tower is off-limits to students and should have been locked, though there is now no information on whether the tower was unlocked or if the lock had been tampered with.

University bosses are now investigating to find out how the group gained access to the tower.
