Democratic presidential candidate Sen.

Bret Baier: And she's not running for president. Sanders has published three books since the start of his first White House run, including bestsellers "Our Revolution" and "Where We Go From Here".

"This year, we had $560,000 in income", Sanders admitted.

We've provided two screenshots from the 2014 tax return below. Burlington Free Press shared that in 2016, he donated all $4,050 from five appearances to charity. The campaign did not say how much was given in that case. Sanders said that his newer returns will show that he is a millionaire thanks to book sales. "I consider paying more in taxes as my income rose to be both an obligation and an investment in our country". Sanders' campaign said in a news release that he paid 26% effective tax rate in 2018.

Turning serious, he explained: "I make what a United States senator makes". You can read the full tax returns in the story below. It showed they had total income of US$314,742. All of the other returns have typed entries.

There is no requirement that presidential candidates release their tax returns, but many have done so by tradition.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren of MA, who has also made anti-corruption a key focus of her campaign, reported the next highest income out of the six Democrats who have released at least a decade of returns, showing an adjusted gross income between her and her husband of over $846,000.

Sanders' personal wealth has come under heightened scrutiny in recent weeks. At a campaign stop in Gary, Indiana, a reporter asked Sanders whether his millionaire status was at odds with his populist economic message.

"I agree with you, I think Trump is a risky president", Sanders added, referring to his previous comments where he called the president a pathological liar and said he didn't think Americans were proud to have a president with that quality.

I didn't know that it was a crime to write a good book which turns out to be a bestseller.

While millions of Americans had to cut Uncle Sam a check this year to pay their tax bill, 60 of the Fortune 500 companies paid zero taxes on their revenue, a new report finds.

"When you wrote the book and made the money, isn't that the definition of capitalism and the American dream?"

Bernie and Jane Sanders claimed no expenses from Jane's business. Sanders was first elected to the Senate in 2006 and served in the House for 16 years before that.

"If the ultimate question is, will he credibly push special interests and the billionaire class and the wealthy in this country to do the things that need to be done, like Medicare for All, like a climate jobs plan, the answer is yes", Shakir said.

A liberal website, ThinkProgress, earlier this month posted a video about what it called "Bernie's millionaire problem".

Though Sanders is not the only millionaire in the group - Sen.

Harris's 15 years of returns surpass the decade's worth of tax information from fellow Democratic presidential contenders Sens.

President Donald Trump did not release any of his tax returns during the campaign and has yet to show any signs he will do so ahead of the 2020 election.

The former Florida governor released 33 years of tax returns during his failed 2016 presidential bid.
