Temperatures in Nottingham are forecast to reach 20˚C over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

However, the Scandinavian ice blast will be a distant memory by Thursday and over the Easter weekend with the Met Office predicting temperatures to rise to 21C on Saturday.

It could be time to get those sunglasses out and make the most of the sunny weather, with highs of 17 degrees predicted on Friday, and highs of 18 degrees predicted for Saturday.

There is unlikely to be any widespread rain - although there could be some falls in Ireland, Wales and the south-west of England before conditions become more settled later this week.

Britain will be warmer than areas of the Mediterranean with high pressure likely to dominate the weather as the week progresses.

Simon Partridge, a Met Office forecaster, said Good Friday would be pleasant before the mercury rises to exceed 20C (68F) in some areas on Saturday and Sunday.

"By the weekend we could see in parts of the country temperatures of around 20C, or just above".

Mr Miles added there is "uncertainty" around forecasts after Easter Sunday.

Twice it has hit 27.8C with the first time at Heathrow and Mildenhall, in Suffolk, in 1949.

Generally temperatures were between 25°C - 27°C across the south-east and East Anglia that year.
