Abigail Disney Calls Bob Iger’s $65 Million Compensation ‘Insane’

Disney CEO Bob Iger's $65.6 million payday in fiscal 2018 is an "insane" level of compensation, according to company heiress Abigail Disney, the granddaughter of co-founder Roy Disney. I do NOT speak for my family but only for myself. She has previously said that CEOs are overpaid and the wealthy - including herself - should be taxed at a higher rate. I like Bob Iger. He most certainly does. The social activist and filmmaker noted that Iger could have given a 15% raise to every Disneyland employee out of pocket and still earned $10 million.

"We all know the Federal Minimum is too low to live on". "So why must we, at a company that's more profitable than it's ever been, be paying anything so close to the least the law allows?" "Anyone who contributes to the success of a profitable company and who works full time to do so should not go hungry, should not ration insulin, and should not have to sleep in a auto", she said. Specifically, she called on corporate executives to give employees pay rises, rather than one-off bonuses.

Responding to criticism directed at her for taking a stand against excessive executive pay, Abigail Disney said: "Pointing out the incongruity of pay at the top and pay at the bottom provokes a reaction because it so violates our innate sense of fairness, it is impossible not to wince".

One study found Iger's compensation is 1,424 times that of the median Disney employee.

It isn't the first time Disney has spoken out about this sort of thing. Abigail Disney told NY magazine's The Cut that if it were up to her, "I would pass a law against private jets, because they enable you to get around a certain reality".
