"Yes, she matters, and I'll tell you why", Williams, one of the network's few admitted Democrats said.

At least four candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination are vying to win the endorsement of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Politico is reporting. "We need a political revolution", Sanders said at the "Road to the Green New Deal Tour" rally at Howard University.

"I don't think she was talking about me", Biden said.

Biden has chafed at reports that he's considering a less-ambitious approach to climate change than many of his rivals have endorsed, but he's also expressed skepticism at the Green New Deal.

Fox News' Dagen McDowell expressed her fear that Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal would put "millions" of energy industry employees out of work before taking shots at the NY "socialist's" appearance.

Ocasio-Cortez seized on the remark during a Green New Deal rally in DC on Monday and tried to paint Biden as a centrist out of touch with the progressive vanguard of the party.

Ocasio-Cortez, who rose to national fame past year after a surprise primary upset of then-Democratic House Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley, hasn't endorsed a 2020 candidate yet.

In crafting a more middle-ground approach to climate change, Biden is hoping to appeal to working-class voters who may be reluctant to back more extensive approaches to climate change, like the Green New Deal, which ultimately seeks to reduce USA greenhouse gas emissions to net zero over a 10-year period.

"We do need to finish this green revolution in a way that is rational, that we can do it, afford it and get it done now", Biden said. He said he would deliver a major speech by the end of the month further detailing his environmental and climate change plans.

The Sunrise Movement says it is eager to hear Biden's plans and hopeful that he'll align himself with the national grassroots campaign, presidential candidates including Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), of Green New Deal legislation which the pair introduced in February. They call it more evidence of the creep of "socialism" in the Democratic Party, along with "Medicare for All" and a sweeping elections reform package that would allow public financing of congressional campaigns. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, and 104 members of Congress who have pledged to back the Green New Deal.

Biden was also booed when Alexandra Rojas of Justice Democrats asked the crowd what they thought of Biden's "middle-of-the-road" climate change proposal.

The Sunrise Movement's nationwide tour is over, but the group says it is continuing to push for the Green New Deal through the work of local chapters all over the country.
