Who Went Home on 'American Idol' This Week? Two Singers Cut Ahead of Finale

The network made the news official on American Idol Twitter, which announced, 'We're singing with excitement!#AmericanIdol is coming back for a third season on ABC!'

The renewal was also reported on by Deadline, which added that the show's lineup of judges is not yet set in stone. However, it did not reveal whether judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie would return for the third go-round as negotiations are still ongoing and the two sides are thought to be far apart.

Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the series is doing well in the ratings. Alejandro Aranda, Madison VanDenburg and Laine Hardy are the three remaining contestants who will compete for the crown in 2019. The Monday episodes have been earning a 1.5 rating and 8.3 million viewers.

"Idol" is not the first show to be renewed by ABC for the 2019-2020 season ahead of the network's upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday, with "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Bachelor" both having been renewed, for Seasons 28 and 24, respectively.

She signed what was reportedly a whopping $25 million contract in 2017, which the Wall Street Journal confirmed in a March 2018 report.

During this current season, famed multimedia personality Bobby Bones will took on the role of in-house mentor.

The finale of American Idol airs on Sunday (May 19) at 8 PM ET, when we will learn who the next American Idol champion will be.
