In a twist even more shocking than anything Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss could muster, Apple also updated the third-generation Apple TV to give it the new Apple TV app.

The new Apple TV app will enable Samsung Smart TV owners to access iTunes movies and TV shows in addition to Apple TV channels.

The new iOS 12.3 software update is finally here, the software landed yesterday and it brings a range of new features to the iPhone and iPad.

The app offers personalised recommendations of shows and films from more than 150 video apps and streaming services as well as a new Kids section.

Apple's new TV app is also rolling out via an update to tvOS (also numerated 12.3) on the company's Apple TV set top boxes. While the presence of channels, iTunes content, and the forthcoming Apple TV+ are no surprise, what's missing is any reference to the other content now offered by the app on tvOS and iOS.

If you were holding back on upgrading to iOS 12.3 thinking it could negatively affect the performance of your old iPhone or iPad, you can now upgrade to it without any worries.

Users can also share their subscription with up to five other family members at a time. The app is going to work with Samsung's Smart TV services such as Bixby and Universal Guide to provide users with a consistent experience on the platform. Parents, desperate for family friendly content, will be elated to see a Kids section that serves up editorially selected titles, a practice that continues Apple's push of being the content curators which we first saw in Apple Music. Apple TV search results will also be integrated into searches done via the TV.

However, Apple has made a serious statement about its plans to get viewers switching to its Apple TV+ service. Once you've subscribed, you'll find content from the channel on the Watch Now tab in the TV app.

iOS 12.3 isn't all about the TV, though.

You can now use Apple Pay to make purchases from iTunes, the App Store and Apple Books.
