Body of missing Florida mom discovered in warehouse freezer

The body of a Florida woman who had been missing for almost six years was found last month inside the freezer of a scrap metal business, the owner said Friday.

According to a heavily redacted Margate police report, the owner of the scrap metal business made the horrifying discovery on March 15 after the refrigerator was delivered for scrap metal processing. The freezer containing Lacey's body had been in a Hollywood apartment where Jonathan Escarzaga, 36, was reported dead on February 17, 2019.

"It thought it was a witch, or a mannequin", Lilian Argueta told the paper about finding the cadaver.

"My dad was talking to her every day until Thanksgiving", Amber Lacey, Heather's younger sister, told The Sentinel. The freezer had been in his apartment and was moved to the scrap warehouse after the apartment manager hired a company to remove the appliances. They opened it about a month after Escarzaga's death and found the missing woman.

It was not clear on Monday if Escarzaga had any role in Lacey's death or disappearance.

Authorities are withholding information pending autopsy results by the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
