Sonos Google Assistant is here What you need to know

Sonos began rolling out Google Assistant support to its entire speaker line-up in the United States Tuesday. The functionality is a near-complete copy of what you can do with a Google Home today, including controlling smart home devices and using the speakers as part of a group with other Assistant-enabled device. Google Assistant has numerous same features you find on other devices, like Google's own speakers, but for those who don't want to use Amazon's assistant, this is a welcomed update. To that end, the company is exemplifying essentially the simplest use case where having both Alexa and Google Assistant just one voice command away could come in handy.

Amazon's voice assistant, Alexa, is already on Sonos One and Sonos Beam.

Users can also check the weather, ask questions, listen to news updates, make calendar entries, and control Assistant enabled products like Chromecast and Google smart home devices.

"We value freedom of choice, empowering listeners to choose what they want to listen to and how they want to control it". Sonos' executive didn't want to comment on the company's roadmap, but said that it planned to extend the feature set of the Google Assistant on its devices over time.

Following the Alexa support for Sonos which was announced past year, Google today announced that it is bringing the Google Assistant support to Sonos.

Not just music and TV, Sonos will support the Google Assistant's top first party actions and features, including Continued Conversation, Broadcast mode, and the ability to choose a different voice for the assistant. According to Sonos, a song can be playing on an Alexa-enabled speaker and a user can ask the Google Assistant one for the song information without interrupting the music. With this support, you can play music, get to know traffic to work, control your home and more.

This announcement marks the addition of a second built-in voice assistant for Sonos products. And when you have a Sonos Beam connected to your TV, you'll be able to use its HDMI connection to play content on the connected TV directly.
