There will be a few other things to mark the occasion, including the launch of the World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary Collector's Edition, which will be available from October 8 for $99.

If you subscribe to World of Warcraft, you'll get this retro reboot for free, as well as the chance to jump into the closed beta test from tomorrow (May 15) as mentioned.

WoW Classic is included for all subscribers at no cost, and those with an active sub can opt-in to the invite-only closed beta, scheduled for May 15. Meanwhile, players who want to participate in a later trio of stress tests, taking place this May, June, and July, can opt in by flipping a toggle in their official Blizzard accounts. Before the game goes live there will be both beta and stress tests.

Much like the developers of RuneScape (Jagex) learned back in 2013 when they launched "Old School RuneScape" (a nostalgic, 2007-themed version of the browser MMO), World of Warcraft developer Blizzard has found that there's a significant demand for a similar "Classic" server.

World of Warcraft Classic, an instance of how the game was at launch before any of its numerous expansions launched, will be releasing on August 26-27 depending on region. It includes a Onyxia pin, map of Azeroth mouse pad, art prints, special anniversary mounts, and a large black-and-gold statue of Ragnaros the Firelord. This version is also including some updates under the hood, like modern server infrastructure and social features.

WoW Classic will offer a big chunk of content to a small selection of players starting tomorrow, but that's not the only chance to play early.
