DJI takes on GoPro with new Osmo Action camera

Here are a few side-by-side reviews to show you how the new Osmo Action stacks up against GoPro's newest action camera.

DJI has also implemented its Electronic Image Stabilization technology called RockSteady into Osmo Action so that the camera could keep up with all the action that users intend to capture. On the front, you'll find a 1.4-inch screen that makes selfies and vlogging easier. On the back is a 2.25-inch touchscreen display. It seems that GoPro got themselves a new competitor in the world of small action cameras, but can DJI beat them?

As you'd expect for a modern actioncam, the Osmo Action is dust-, water- and shockproof, and can operate in sub-zero temperatures. There are three buttons on the body for recording, power and navigating through content.

In terms of pricing DJI have it available to buy on their website for €379, compared to the €429.99 you'll need to spend if you want to buy the GoPro Hero 7 Black. Osmo Action is our cutting-edge answer to what the creative community demands: "Exceptional image quality and stabilization in a unique and durable new form factor, with dual color screens and seamless software integration", said DJI President, Roger Luo.

Comes with a 12MP sensor, the HDR-capable Osmo Action is able to shoot 4K videos at 60fps (30fps if HDR is enabled) as well as 1080p slow motion videos at 120fps and 240fps.

Of course, DJI also threw in some intelligent features like slo-mo, timelapse and the ability to manually adjust exposure settings so you can try to take night shots. One of my favorite aspects of the Osmo Action is its Quick Switch physical button, which lets easily toggle between modes like picture, video, time-lapse and slow-motion.
