Rimac teams up with Hyundai and Kia to build electric sportscars

Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with Rimac Automobili to develop an electric version of its upcoming N Performance mid-engined sports vehicle, along with a high-performance fuel-cell auto.

Of the $80 million investment $64 million will come from Hyundai, and $16 million from Kia.

The Hyundai Motor Group has invested heavily in hydrogen fuel-cell technology alongside its full-electric development plans, believing that the technology can be a viable alternative to pure EVs for low carbon-emission vehicles.

Other automakers were impressed enough to contract with Rimac to supply electric powertrain components for vehicles such as the planned Pininfarina Battista.

Hyundai Motor Group will leverage the partnership to build on its existing R&D capabilities to meet its electrification plan. "We look forward to collaborating with Rimac on our road to Clean Mobility".

The official statement mentions, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors and Rimac will work on the development of an electric version of Hyundai Motor's N brand midship sports auto and a high-performance fuel cell electric vehicle.

While Hyundai gets a couple cars out of the deal, Rimac also benefits by being able to tap into the scale and manufacturing power of the Korean manufacturer, which will grow the small company even further.

And who better to collaborate with on those projects than a firm which has a proven history of producing electrically-powered sports cars with more than 1,000hp? The company has its headquarters located on the outskirts of Zagreb, Croatia with a worforce strength of more than 500. The company is vertically integrated with numerous components produced in house.

Hyundai Motor Group is a global corporation that has created a value chain based on automobiles, steel, and construction and includes logistics, finance, IT and service. Armed with creative thinking, cooperative communication and the will to take on all challenges, we are working to create a better future for all.
