Snowpiercer TV show premiering next spring on TBS

The long-gestating "Snowpiercer" series is on the move.

Variety confirmed Wednesday the show received an early renewal and will move from TNT to TBS.

"'Snowpiercer' is the flawless show to kick off TBS' entry into dramas with intricate storytelling, stunning visuals and first-class acting", said Brett Weitz, General Manager of TBS and TNT. TNT, meanwhile, has focused on dramas like "The Alienist" and "Animal Kingdom".

"We believe in the longevity of this series and that audiences will be amazed by the fantastical world that brings to life such relevant social, political and environmental issues", he added. The show was first put into development in 2015, ordered to pilot in 2016, and ordered to series in 2018. About a month later, Orphan Black co-creator Graeme Manson was tapped as the new showrunner, with TNT's executive vice president of original programming calling him "the best conductor to navigate the thought provoking and delicate themes of the series while bringing this frozen, futuristic world to life". The sci-fi series adaptation of Bong Joon-ho's acclaimed 2014 film of the same name has already been renewed for a second season at TBS before it has made its 2020 release.

The series, which has roughly the same plot as the movie, follows the final remnants of humanity aboard the Snowpiercer, a perpetually-moving train that circles the globe; shoes are thrown, protein bars are consumed, and there's a clash among classes. They will be joined by Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Sam Otto, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sheila Vand, Roberto Urbina, Lena Hall and Rowan Blanchard. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios will executive produced along with Derrickson, James Hawes, Matthew O'Connor, Miky Lee, Jeong Tae-sung, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Choi Dooho.

Morgan and Haddish will return for the third season, as well as series regulars Ryan Gaul, Allen Maldonado, Taylor Mosby and Dante Hoagland.
