Deadly plane crash brings world's busiest airport to halt

"The small plane owned by Honeywell had four passengers on board, when it crashed due to a technical malfunction", Dubai Media Office added.

That aircraft is registered to Flight Calibration Services Ltd, based in Shoreham, West Sussex, according to Flight Radar. "The relevant teams are on the scene", Dubai Media Office said.

Quoting a Dubai airport spokesperson, Khaleej Times reported that operations at the airport were "suspended from 19:36 to 20:22 UAE local time due to an incident involving a small non-commercial aircraft in the vicinity of the airport".

Three Britons have died after a light aircraft crashed near Dubai International Airport, authorities have said. "The plane was not owned or operated by Honeywell but by a third party engaged by Honeywell".

United States engineering and aerospace company Honeywell told BBC it had hired Flight Calibration Services and the DA42 plane for work in Dubai. "We are waiting for more details", a statement read.

Investigations are under way and the airport is operating as normal.

Dubai International is now operating as a reduced capacity due to works on one of its runways.

The aircraft, which was involved in upgrading a runway at the major transport hub, crashed on Thursday night (local time) and halted traffic at the world's busiest airport for global travel for almost an hour.

An investigation team from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) arrived at the scene of the crash.

The city-state's last major aircraft incident happened on August 3, 2016.

The fuel tank of the Boeing 777 exploded in an ensuing blaze, killing firefighter Jassim Al Baloushi, 27, from Ras Al Khaimah.
