Taylor Swift takes aim at Donald Trump as she gathers support for pro-LGBT laws

The 29-year-old superstar took to her Instagram to share a letter she wrote to Tennessee senator Lamar Alexander to ask him to vote for the act, which would protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in their places of work, homes, schools, and other public accommodations.

"The fact that, legally, some people are completely at the mercy of the hatred and bigotry of others is disgusting and unacceptable".

The Democratic-controlled House passed the legislation in mid-May.

In addition to sharing the letter, Swift also posted a message to her fans encouraging them to write their own letters. In excellent recent news, the House has passed the Equality Act...

'I urge you to write to your senators too'.

Swift added that she "personally rejects" the notion that President Donald Trump's administration supports equal treatment of all people. "One can not take the position that one supports a community while condemning it in the next breath as going against 'conscience" or 'parental rights.' That statement implies that there is something wrong with being anything other than heterosexual and cisgender, which is an incredibly harmful message to send to a nation full of healthy and loving families with same-sex, non binary or transgender parents, sons or daughters".

In conclusion, the singer urged the lawmaker to "please, please think about the lives you could change for the better if you were to vote to support the Equality Act in the Senate and prohibit this harsh and unfair discrimination. I, for one, would be immensely grateful".

To top things off, Taylor also made a generous donation to GLAAD.

Taylor Swift attends the Time 100 Gala, celebrating the 100 most influential people in the world in NY. "In today's divisive political and cultural climate, we need more allies like Taylor, who send positive and uplifting messages to LGBTQ people everywhere".
