Following his retirement, Yuvraj took to his official Twitter handle to reveal that Akhtar was one bowler who terrified him the most during his playing days, adding that he had to gather a lot of courage before facing the former Pakistan pacer.

Yuvraj Singh announced his final decision to retire from all forms of cricket during a press conference at a South Bombay hotel on June 10. On Monday, Yuvraj brought an end to a stellar global career of nearly 17 years.

"A rock-star, a match victor, a great junior and a very good friend of mine", Akhtar said on his YouTube channel. In a tweet, Ganguly said every good things comes to an end and said the latter was like his brother.

Yuvraj earlier on Monday, announced to retire from global cricket, wrapping up his almost two decade long cricket journey having played 304 ODIs, 58 T20Is and 40 Tests. When I saw him in 2003 in the World Cup match at Centurion, he played a very good knock and I always found him an elegant batsman. "He has done wonders", Akhtar said in the video posted on his Youtube channel.

Heaping praises on Yuvraj, Akhtar said that the former is the most elegant left-hander India has produced so far. I was told that if I failed a Yo-Yo test then I can play a retirement match. He was named as the Man of the Tournament in India's 2011 World Cup and was the reason for a number of wins for the Indian squad. The feat included four Man of the Match awards and Man of the Tournament for the 362 runs and 15 wickets.

Yuvraj brought the curtains down on a roller-coaster worldwide career, during which he became the hero of India's 2011 World Cup triumph and fought a gritty battle with cancer.

Sharma, who is now in England participating in the ICC 2019 World Cup with the Indian team, put out a tweet late on Monday night which said: "You don't know what you got till it's gone".

"He was a great cricketer, a great friend and a very patriotic Indian".

"I wish him best of luck for the future. He is a TV product and I know he will do a lot of work on the small screen", he added.
