De Ligt: Barcelona, Juventus target to choose his own path

Reports Barcelona and Ajax agree on final transfer price for Matthijs de Ligt

Reports Barcelona and Ajax agree on final transfer price for Matthijs de Ligt

It has recently been suggested that PSG have become surprise front-runners to land the Ajax captain.

Oriol Domènech has been on the "Club de la Mitjanit" show, Catalunya Ràdio, and made some claims about De Ligt potentially moving to one club now, and saving Barcelona for the future. Man United are also said to be putting a huge salary on the table to tempt him to Old Trafford.

Whatever the case may be, no Manchester United fan truly believed their side was in for De Ligt's signature.

The Catalan club will pay Ajax 75 million euros to sign the defender.

De Ligt can pretty much choose whatever club he wants to join and he's insisted first-team minutes is his most important deciding factor. Barca have to say enough.

The ex-Liverpool striker told the Irish Independent: "Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt have formed a great defensive partnership with the Netherlands and I'm sure they would like to build on that at Liverpool".

And Marca add that if De Ligt decides to snub the Blaugrana, Ernesto Valverde will not chase a second-choice option.

Discussing his next move at the UEFA Nations League finals in Portugal last week, De Ligt told Mundo Deportivo: "Money is not the problem".

"I still don't know what my heart says. I do not know when I'll have it resolved, but I'm going to take my time".

"Of course it would be nice to play with De Jong and [Lionel] Messi at Barcelona, but I must look at what is best for me".
