Playing against the nation of his birth, all eyes will be on his 24-year-old fast bowler Archer, who has made an explosive start to his global career. Now he's going to have to live with it.

The West Indies dismissed Pakistan for 105 at Trent Bridge, the lowest total of the tournament, by unleashing an array of bouncers from Oshane Thomas, Andre Russell and Sheldon Cottrell. Tournament favourites England take on dark horses West Indies in a what promises to be an enticing contest at the Rose Bowl here Friday.

He experienced further problems on the eve of the World Cup, pulling out of a warm-up game against Australia.

"The previous game we've only played one spinner [there quite often] and we felt that Rash, with the ability to spin it both ways on those smaller grounds, had more opportunity to take wickets".

While Archer has been a revelation to occasional cricket fans in England, he has always been on the watch list for selectors because of his English-born father.

"I have known Archer for a while and I saw Wood in the Caribbean past year".

"To be honest, we knew Jofra for a long time".

'He is bowling quickly but that is nothing we are not accustomed to.

Archer was offered a chance to make it in English county cricket after being overlooked for the West Indies Under-19 World Cup squad in 2015 and a late bid to bring him back into the fold failed after England´s interest became clear.

Both teams are blessed with pace options, with Jofra Archer and Mark Wood both hitting 95mph against Bangladesh and Ben Stokes happy to play enforcer if Wood misses out.

Next he is confronted with the challenge of taking on Chris Gayle, who has a strong recent record against England, smashing 39 sixes against them in the five-match ODI series earlier this year. They haven't been back to the final since.

"I did work with him (Archer) when he was a lot younger in Barbados".

He added: "He obviously had the pace".

"I have not seen too many with express pace here just yet but we have a couple of good ones too so I expect it to be tit for tat", head coach Bayliss said. "I'm sure Jofra will be chomping at the bit to come at us, and we will be ready for him". 'Get Jofra to bowl at him!' he said.

England fast bowler Mark Wood is a doubt for Friday's World Cup clash with West Indies at Southampton because of a flare-up of an ankle injury, captain Eoin Morgan said on Thursday.
