Klay Thompson ruled out of Game 6 with apparent knee injury

Warriors guard Klay Thompson will not return to Game 6 after injuring his knee, the team's public relations department has announced. He immediately grabbed his left knee, writhing on the court in obvious pain as Golden State's medical staff raced out to provide attention.

ESPN's Doris Burke later reported that he was ruled out of the rest of the game because of the injury. Had he left he would have been ineligible to come back in the game. But it wasn't enough - the Raptors won 114-110 to finish off a 4-2 series victory and capture their first National Basketball Association championship.

Thompson, of course, is set to become a free agent in a few weeks, so now his future, like Durant's, is full of questions.

It wasn't a dirty play by Green or anything, it was just a weird landing that caused his leg to bend in a direction it's not supposed to go. After having witnessed Kevin Durant go down for the season with a ruptured Achilles in Game 5, fans and fellow National Basketball Association players feared the worst as Thompson went back to the locker room.

Thompson injured his knee when he landed awkwardly after being fouled on a dunk attempt late in the third quarter of the game.

Thompson's re-emergence on the floor received a raucous standing ovation from the crowd inside sold-out Oracle Arena.

He stayed down for a minute and initially went to the locker room.

Thursday night's scene was eerily reminiscent of the scene surrounding Durant's injury. The Warriors have a long road ahead of them as they head into next season.
