"Jurgen Klopp has reignited his interest in Nabil Fekir and he would buy him from Olympique Lyon", Schira tweeted.

But the Reds pulled the plug on the deal, citing fears over surgery Fekir had undergone on a knee injury earlier in the season.

Fekir has already conducted media duties with LFCTV, including an interview wearing the Liverpool shirt, and was set to become the third signing of an ambitious summer.

Fekir provided 12 goals and nine assists in 39 games for Lyon, who secured a third-placed finish in Ligue 1 past year.

The report says that Fekir's move fell through for fitness reasons but perhaps those concerns have subsided in the intervening year.

This was then corroborated by CANAL+ and Eurosport's Romain Collet-Gaudin, who took to Twitter on Thursday morning to write that the Reds are "very interested" in Fekir.

According to Lyon-based paper Le Progres (as reported), Liverpool "have returned to the charge, but would not be willing to invest as much as last summer".

The popular line on Merseyside remains that Fekir is not a target this summer, but it will be interesting to see whether the story develops in the coming weeks.

But Press Association Sport understands the club's stance has not changed since the player failed his medical and the deal was declared dead.

However, with the club still wanting around £45million for a player with just 12 months left on his contract it would benefit the Ligue 1 club if they can generate an auction for his services.

But it is believed that the European Champions have no intention of paying anywhere near the fee that was agreed with Lyon last June.

And Liverpool's plan to get the fee down for Fekir apparently revolves around the friendly organised between themselves and Lyon in Geneva on July 31, as they are hopeful that giving the French side a greater share of the profits from that game could get the price down.
