Spanish giants Real Madrid are believed to have pipped arch-rivals FC Barcelona to the signing of an 18-year-old wonderkid dubbed "the Japanese Messi". The Japanese youngster will pen a six-year deal with the club where he will play with Castilla under the orders of Raul Gonzalez.

Real Madrid have announced the signing of FC Tokyo midfielder Takefusa Kubo.

Real Madrid have signed Japanese teenager Takefusa Kubo - describing him as "one of the most promising young players in the world".

Kubo apparently demanded an annual salary of €1 million (R16.7 million) for each of the five years of his contract with the Blaugrana, in addition to wanting to be guaranteed promotion to the first team in his second season with the club.

Kubo is now training with the Japanese national side preparing the Copa America tournament in Brazil and has scored four goals in his last four J-League matches. A technically gifted and hugely talented attacking midfielder, he possess wonderful vision, quick feet and has an eye for goal.

Turning 18 has meant he can officially move back to Europe.

Kubo was picked by Japan for the 2019 Copa America and made his worldwide debut in a warm-up match against El Salvador on June 9, 2019.

Will Kuba end up being the next Messi or just another hyped up failure?
