Johnson was released after Trump commuted her sentence.

"It's really is such an honor to be here", she said, describing how she had gotten involved advocating for former inmates after making numerous visits to prisons.

"I just wanted to thank the president for standing behind this issue", she said, turning toward Trump who was looking on beside her. "I am so excited to announce some exciting things", Kardashian said in a video on social media.

Kardashian touted her partnership with the ride sharing company Lyft which will help provide former inmates with transportation services.

The 38-year-old reality star joined President Trump at a press conference to speak about the Second Chance hiring and reentry event on Thursday (June 13) in Washington, DC.

Kardashian West is now studying law and working as an assistant to two attorneys, with the goal of becoming a lawyer. "I'm at the place in my life where I wanted to make a difference and wanted to do the right thing".

"I'm so happy to announce today that we have a ride-share partnership where formerly incarcerated people will be gifted gift cards so that they can get rides to and from job interview, to and from jobs, family members", Kardashian West said. The event also featured employers who give former inmates "second-chance jobs".

Kardashian has been at the White House several times to discuss criminal justice reform issues and successfully lobbied President Trump to pardon Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving life without parole for drug offenses.

"Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star Kim Kardashian West makes remark on second chance hiring.

Despite publicly endorsing Hillary Clinton for president in 2016, Kardashian has shown a willingness to work with Trump, and has credited her interactions with the administration for her newly found role as an activist.

Johnson was sentenced to life in prison in 1997 for committing a first-time nonviolent drug crime in Memphis.

Kim must also complete 60 college credits and then work as an apprentice at a law firm in San Francisco with the intention to take the Bar Exam in 2022.

Following the announcement, Kardashian thanked Trump and said witnessing "the compassion that he's had for criminal justice has been really remarkable". "I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more", she told Vogue about her motivations, adding that her experience in the White House with people experienced in law helped her realize she needed to know more.
