Valve Announces Dota Underlords Strategy Game for PC Android and iOS Preview Version Now Live for Dota 2 Battle Pass Owners

Other times, those original owners try to strike off on their own to eventually wipe the mod from history.

A little less than a month after Valve decided to make a stand-alone version of the explosively-popular Dota Auto Chess mode, Dota Underlords has just been released in closed beta for owners of The International 2019 Battle Pass.

In other words, it's totally Auto Chess. It has nothing to do with chess and only superficially related to Dota.

The Dota team says they are big fans of Auto Chess and insider sources say they even tried to strike a deal with Drodo to co-develop a standalone game. Valve has also revealed that they'll be doing stress testing for a week or so before Dota Underlords officially launches into Open Beta. Those negotiations fell through and the two companies made a decision to go their own way.

"We're sharing Dota Underlords fairly early in development".

As Valve describes it, "Dota Underlords is a new stand-alone game that pits you against seven opponents in a battle of wits that will have you building, combining, and leveling-up a crew in a battle of dominance for the city of White Spire".

In the closed beta, players can play online against seven other players in rooms or practice offline against AI bots. Owners of the Battle Pass can now opt-in to the Underlord beta from the Dota 2 client, and in one week it will hit open beta for everyone. After a week, the Open Beta will begin, available for free for everyone on Steam (Windows, Mac, Linux), Android, and iOS. This will also enable ranked matchmaking and both crossplay and cross-progression across all platforms. Hopefully, this will do better than Artifact.
