Forty-five people in 13 states have reported becoming ill with a strain of Salmonella, many of whom after giving their dogs pig ear dog treats since November, the CDC reported.

People with symptoms of Salmonella infection should consult their healthcare providers. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers. Don't use your pet's feeding bowl to scoop food. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

"It's not clear why some brands of pig ears have tested positive for Salmonella and others have not".

According to the CDC, 45 people in 13 states have become ill after coming in contact with pig ear dog treats. However, none of these cases are confirmed to be a result of purchasing pig ears from Pet Supplies Plus.
