California couple suing fertility clinic that implanted their embryo in another woman

In August 2018, the clinic transferred two of what were thought to be the Manukyans' embryos into Anni's uterus.

The couple said the baby was nearly 2 weeks old when they learned of him. The twins actually belonged to two other couples who were also clients of the hospital. Manukyan said through tears at a press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

"CHA robbed me of my ability to carry my own child, my baby boy, and be with him in the first moments of his life", she said. "It was just - it was heartbreaking, it was awful", she said.

Anni and Ashot Manukyan are suing a USA fertility clinic over an IVF mix-up.

The Queens woman and her husband filed a separate medical malpractice and negligence lawsuit in federal court in Brooklyn last week.

An attorney for the couple, Adam Wolf, said Wednesday the three-family mixup was one of the worst fertility centre tragedies in United States history.

"I hope that no one ever has to suffer through what my family has been through and I hope that CHA sees this, understands what it did, stops lying and takes responsibility before even more families are hurt", Anni Manukynan said.

The horrendous mix-up was revealed in a legal case filed last week by the NY couple who tried for years to become pregnant before giving birth to two babies belonging to two other families.

Anni and Ashot Manukyan, who are biological parents of one of the baby boys, have revealed that not only was their embryo given to the wrong person, Anni was implanted with yet another stranger's embryo in its place.

The clinic has not responded to multiple requests from PEOPLE for comment.

"They knew the day the babies were born because they had apparently called CHA and told them, okay we're Asian and these children are white, they're Caucasian". On this second attempt, though, they said the fertility clinic bungled their IVF process and have not been forthcoming since then.

"This incredible series of events demonstrates CHA [Fertility Clinic]'s shocking incompetence", Adam Wolf, the couple's attorney, of Peiffer Wolff Carr and Kane, said.

A Glendale couple spoke out Wednesday against a downtown Los Angeles fertility clinic after a NY woman gave birth to their child in an in vitro fertilization mixup involving three different couples.

Anni and Ashot Manukyan now say one of the embryos was their child.

The couple said they were granted custody in May and saw their baby boy for the first time, six weeks after he was born.

The IVF mix-up has been described as "one of the worst fertility centre tragedies in USA history".

According to the lawsuit, the couple was forced to give custody of each child to their biological parents, who are also clients of CHA Fertility Center. "It was heartbreaking. It was awful".

Each child born to the NY woman was found to be a genetic match to a different couple, lawyers said.

"He's had no issues bonding with us". "We love him so much".

Anni Manukyan claims she was hospitalized for two days due to stress-related illness after learning that another woman had unknowingly given birth to her biological son across the country. "I didn't get to feel him kick", Anni said. They cry every day. "He's been ours since day one".

Now, one of the couples whose embryos ended up in the NY woman is also suing and accusing the clinic of misleading her and her husband, too.

The New York couple - identified only as AP and YZ in the lawsuit to protect them from "embarrassment and humiliation" - gave birth to two boys who were not of Asian descent, as they are. "On information and belief, Defendants also do not know whose embryos they transferred to Anni", court papers said.
