He was 38 years old.

"I guess you can say he was a legend and in the state of Kentucky, and for me, it's important to pay respect to those who came before me, whether they played for the University of Kentucky or Louisville", Brown told Patricia Traina of Forbes. Two other former Cardinals, Deion Branch and Chris Redman, are also donating an unspecified amount toward the funeral cost.

"We wanted to be an example of how, no matter if you played for the blue or the red, how important it is for us to come together and support one another, both in and out of sports", he said.

"The rivalry between the schools is intense, and it's great, but at the end of the day, all that doesn't matter. What matters is that you remember that we're all in this game of life together, whether you played for the blue or the red". Through his foundation, he's making a contribution to help pay for Lorenzen's funeral costs.

Jared Lorenzen occupies a special place in Kentucky history. He threw for 78 touchdowns and 41 interceptions while also contributing 12 touchdowns on the ground. At 26, he never met Lorenzen but was keenly aware of the quarterback's accomplishments, especially at Kentucky. He was the backup quarterback for the Giants from 2004-2007 and won Super Bowl 42 with the team. Unfortunately, his weight spiraled out of control after retirement, but he would later shed over 100 pounds in a video series called the Jared Lorenzen project.

The celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, July 10 from 2 p.m.to 6 p.m. followed by a burial service at 6 p.m.at St. Pius X Church in Edgewood, Kentucky.
