They then went onto nearby College Green where they were filmed intimidating broadcasters who use the space to report on Westminster politics.

In her sentencing remarks, Dame Victoria Sharp told Robinson, of Luton in Bedfordshire, that "nothing less than a custodial penalty would properly reflect the gravity of the conduct we have identified". The words he used, said the judge, would be read as "an incitement" to harass the defendants "gave rise to a real risk the course of justice would be seriously impeded".

However, the restrictions had been in place to postpone publication of any details of the case until the end of all the trials, in order to ensure a fair trial of the 29 defendants.

However, a government spokesman confirmed that Robinson will be treated "like any other prisoner" after claiming United Kingdom prisons are run by "jihadi gangs".

The nine months comprises six months for Robinson's actions outside Leeds Crown Court, and the activation of a separate three-month suspended sentence for similar actions at Canterbury Crown Court.

A court later freed him and said more review was needed.

The video lasted an hour-and-a-half and was viewed online 250,000 times, after being live-streamed on Facebook.

Robinson was originally jailed for 13 months on the day of the Facebook broadcast, but was released two months into his sentence after winning an appeal.

- What is contempt of court?

British far-right activist Tommy Robinson was sentenced again to prison Thursday after being found in contempt of court, sparking clashes between police and his supporters in London.

Attorney-General Geoffrey Cox was given leave to relitigate the case, however, which he chose to do - resulting in Robinson being reconvicted, despite his defence team's arguments that his behaviour was "not materially different to the behaviour we see outside courts day in and day" from mainstream media reporters.

The rules apply to everyone from journalists to people posting comments on social media, and even jurors. He was committed to prison for a further 3 months for a previous contempt.

Contempt includes publishing anything that creates a substantial risk of seriously prejudicing "active" criminal proceedings.

Someone could also be in contempt by actions including taking photographs or film, recording what is said in court or talking to a jury member about a case.
