Filip Helander: Rangers sign Sweden defender from Bologna

Swedish centre-back Filip Helander says he has come to Rangers "to win trophies" after signing from Bologna.

"The Sweden worldwide joins on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee subject to global clearance", Rangers announced on their official Twitter acount.

Helander, 26, is a regular in Janne Andersson's Swedish worldwide side and in 2015 he won the European Under-21 Championship with his country.

"The opportunity to work with a manager like Steven Gerrard was an easy decision to make", he said.

Helander started out at hometown club Malmo and was signed by Italian club Verona in the summer of 2015.

Rangers reportedly paid £3.5million to prise him from Bologna. He has made 10 senior appearances for Sweden.

A combative, strong performer who has experience of playing at the highest level, Helander will now provide Steven Gerrard with another excellent defensive option to play alongside Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic or George Edmundson in the centre of the Gers backline.
