California residents felt another natural disaster Friday morning, with a 4.9-magnitude quake registering Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Los Angeles Fire Department went into Earthquake Emergency Mode, with vehicles and helicopters patrolling the area for any damage or medical needs, KTLA reported.

"Each aftershock is relieving stress in some places and redistributing it to others", Jones said on Twitter this week, adding Friday that this latest 4.9 quake "is normal and it's having its own aftershocks".

There were no reports of damage or injuries in Friday's temblor, which occurred at 6:11 a.m.

The 7.1-magntidue quake near Ridgecrest on July 5 was 158 times bigger than the 4.9-magnitude that hit on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's "How Much Bigger...?" calculator.

Last week's major natural disaster was centered 11 miles northeast of Ridgecrest, the USGS said.

That wasn't the only unusual seismic activity that happened on the West Coast Friday morning, as a 4.6-magnitude quake hit 40 miles northeast of Seattle Friday morning, registering just southwest of Three Lakes, Washington. He covers everything from health and science to politics and crime.
