Jim Johnson reads a newspaper with his morning cup of coffee at a Starbucks in downtown Portland. As of September you can still get the coffee but not the paper at Starbucks

The Seattle-based coffee giant confirmed the news on Thursday, and beginning September 1, if you want to read a physical copy of one of those publications, you'll have to bring it into Starbucks yourself.

Starbucks has been selling the papers for almost 20 years starting with the Times in 2000 and adding the Journal and USA Today in 2010.

The New York Post first reported Starbucks' decision to drop newspaper sales.

After almost 20 years, Starbucks will stop selling newspapers at its more than 8,600 shops in the U.S.

"Some may have thought it was free, like USA Today in hotels", said one industry insider. However, customers often think there is no charge for the papers and take them to read without paying.

The company also plans to stop selling grab-and-go snacks and bags of whole-bean coffee.

The Post reported that Starbucks began selling The New York Times in stores almost 20 years ago, and added the WSJ and USA Today in 2010.

The Times also weighed in on the decision.

"Although disappointed by the decision, we're confident that given our wide retail distribution, readers will have no trouble finding The New York Times for sale at nearby outlets", New York Times spokesperson Jordan Cohen said in a statement.

The Wall Street Journal say it's in talks with Starbucks over looking for other ways for guests to access the publication.

No numbers were shared for how many copies of the papers were sold via Starbucks' display racks.
