Two policemen martyred as terrorists attack check-post in DI Khan

A burqa-clad female suicide bomber on Sunday morning killed four people and injured several others at the main gate of the Trauma Centre of District Headquarter Hospital in Kotlan Syedan on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Salim Riaz Khan, a senior police officer in Dera Ismail Khan, said, "Gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on police in a residential area, killing two".

According to police officials, the suicide bomber exploded herself when a Rescue 1122 vehicle entered in the hospital carrying dead bodies of a police constable.

"The bomber then struck at the entrance to the hospital, killing another four police and three civilians who were visiting their relatives", he added.

Another local police official, Malik Habib, confirmed the attack and casualty figures and said officers later recovered the mutilated head of the bomber.

The Dawn newspaper quotes a local forensics expert who said that the woman set off a 15-pound bomb packed with nails and ball bearings at the hospital's entrance.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has launched scores of attacks going back nearly two decades, but almost all of them were carried out by men.

Last month, the army said that terrorist activity had jumped in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan and at least 10 members of the security forces had been killed and 35 injured over the past months.
