Joshua, Ruiz rematch to take place in Saudi Arabia

Saudis splash $40m on Joshua Ruiz Jr rematch

Andy Ruiz Jr is reportedly refusing to sign off on the rematch with Anthony Joshua unless he gets a much higher purse, according to The Athletic.

'Joshua's going to fight, yeah, boom, knock them out, so from walking into a gym, to three years later competing in the Olympics, from turning professional to three years later becoming world champion, it seemed like this was already written in the stars.

England was also touted as a venue, but Hearn suggested that it would be unfair to the champion to travel to Joshua's home country before Saudi Arabia emerged as a strong contender.

Alongside a picture of the fight poster, he wrote: "Neutral grounds - LETS GO - Dec 7th, time to be 2X - 258MGT".

Ruiz Jr recorded a shock win over Joshua in June, after he replaced Jarrell Miller who failed a drugs test.

But Friday's announcement has been denounced by human rights campaigners, with Amnesty UK calling on Joshua to "inform himself of the human rights situation and be prepared to speak out about Saudi Arabia's abysmal record". Boxing is a part of my life and I'm a champion at heart.

Joshua is adamant defeat to Ruiz Jr was a "blip" on his path to undisputed glory and is confident their second clash with yield a different result.

One huge selling point for the profitability of Joshua-Ruiz II is that England's Sky Sports Pay per View stands to make much more massive money with this fight in primetime in the United Kingdom on Saturday December 7th.

'My objective for that fight was, 'am I fighting Wilder next?'.

"And that's why, when I looked at my options of what we need to do as a team, whether we keep it the same, add to what we have or got rid of it, I thought option two was the best because I'm only a product of what I'm taught in the gym".

"It's my stomping ground, I went out there so let's do the rematch here, and I think it will be unbelievable before the year is out and I'll definitely be having a lovely New Year with my family".

"It's a little blip, a mistake I made".

'Everything it meant to Ruiz winning, is everything it didn't mean to me beating him'.

'The objective for that fight was, 'what is he doing next?', it wasn't exclusively on winning that fight.
