No actual hardware specs or new details were revealed but so far Project Scarlett is shaping up to be a games console to watch.

Microsoft's next Xbox, which is now codenamed Project Scarlett, will come with key improvements that will make it far more consistent, Xbox chief Phil Spencer told Gamespot in a recent interview. Although, if Microsoft can pull it all off, it might just overtake Sony's number one spot in the console market.

Booty said: "I think that the question is less binary about, 'should it be on Switch, should it be on PlayStation?' and more, 'does it make sense for the franchise?'" Spencer then outlined that Microsoft hope to achieve this by ensuring that the games load incredibly fast and run at the highest frame rate possible. We're also the Windows company, so we see the work that goes on [for] PC and the work that developers are doing.

In an exclusive interview with Gamespot, Spencer mentioned that consistency could be on the prime of the agenda for the new console, guaranteeing that games load quickly and run on the highest frame price attainable (on this case, 60 frames-per-second).

"This generation, we've really focused on 4K visuals and how we bring both movies through 4K Blu-ray and video streaming", Spencer explained.

"But playability is probably the bigger focus for us this generation". In an interview, Booty said the decision will be based on what's best for the game. Do I feel like I can get into the game as fast as possible and while it's playing? Spencer also said that the new Xbox will be fully compatible with "all four generations of content", meaning the device will be able to play everything from games on the original Xbox to titles for the Xbox One X. The drawings also feature buttons and symbols resembling those on Xbox game controllers. "We want to respect the games that you've bought from us".

The new console, which will ship in the 2020 holiday season with Halo: Infinite as a launch title, has been designed from the ground up to represent a "bigger generational leap" than anything that the Xbox has done before. For the moment, though, it sounds like it's going to be a solid next-generation console.
