WhatsApp Beta for Android Finally Gets Fingerprint Lock Feature

WhatsApp Beta for Android Finally Gets Fingerprint Lock Feature

The feature is now available to those who have registered in WhatsApp's beta programme for Android.

As mentioned, the fingerprint lock option is enabled in the Android beta version 2.19.221 - now the latest version. The feature adds a button called Edit that when tapped will automatically take the user to the section that allows for the edit to happen.

When enabled, users will need to use fingerprint authentication to unlock WhatsApp and gain access.

Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp has today rolled out a feature where you will be able to unlock WhatsApp on your smartphone by using the fingerprint sensor on your Android device. WhatsApp is also rolling this feature as a server-side update. You can find the feature nesting under WhatsApp Settings Account Privacy Fingerprint Lock. In iOS, users will be able to secure their app through Touch ID or Face ID (on the latest iPhones), but in Android, it now allows users to secure the app only via fingerprint scanner. If you disable the "Show content in notifications" option, WhatsApp will no longer show the sender and message preview when you have Fingerprint lock feature enabled. Users can choose from these options according to their preference.

The quick edit media feature will be available on iOS and Android. If everything goes well during tests, Fingerprint Lock might be deployed to all Android users in the next couple of weeks.

Users have to bear in mind, the fingerprint lock feature only to open your chats; however, they can still answer calls even if this new lock feature is enabled. WhatsApp is expected to roll the feature out to the public once the beta testing is complete. WhatsApp will talk to your phone and allow your saved biometric credentials to work with the app, then you'll be asked whether you want it to lock as soon as you close it or wait for 30 seconds/1 minute.

If you are not on the latest version of beta app, which is 2.19.221 then you need to update the same by heading to Google's Play Store.
