Man pushes birthday-gift BMW into a river

A man allegedly pushed his BMW into a river because he wanted his parents to give him a Jaguar.

Footage shared online in India shows the BMW slowly sinking beneath the surface of a river but despite the youth's best efforts to destroy the vehicle, it apparently re-surfaced after flowing into a small island on the river. The owner later jumped into the river to help retrieve the gift, according to local reports.

Police confirmed to local media that the owner, named only as Akash, had filmed himself pushing the vehicle into the river, reported the Deccan Herald.

The 22-year-old man was identified only as Akash; according to police, he has a mental deficiency and is undergoing treatment.

His father, Sanjeev Kumar, defended his son and denied that Akash wanted a Jaguar.

"When the youth was plunging the high-end BMW auto into the river, he also made a video and put it on social media", a police official was quoted by the Indo-Asian News Service.

BMW cars cost around 3.5 million rupees ($65,000) locally in India, while Jaguars cost about 4 million to 5 million rupees ($92,000).

The police said that there is no criminal case to pursue.

The man's father said the BMW was a birthday present.

"We could only afford to give him a BMW, while he kept on insisting that he be given a Jaguar".

"We never imagined he would do anything like this".

He dad said: "We have two cars, a BMW and a Swift". No charges appear to have been filed against the young man.
