Waqar Younis has reportedly applied for the post of the Pakistan bowling coach, submitting his application with the national cricket board.

"The Burewala Express" bagged 789 wickets in 349 global fixtures during his career as a cricketer and is known as one of the pioneers of reverse swing bowling.

The Pakistan cricket body had announced that they were accepting applications for the coaching staff of the senior men's team after deciding against renewing the contract of current staff including head coach Mickey Arthur.

Misbah-ul-Haq is one of those reported to be competing for the role of the Paksitan head coach.

Talking to the reporters here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday after a training session of the ongoing pre-season training camp, Shadab said: "In today's competitive cricket, it is vital to be a fine all-rounder to support the team with batting and bowling, which not only benefits the team but also the player". While a different set of reports are stating that it is Waqar who is interested in being the head coach himself. Misbah however is seen as the favourite to succeed Arthur and is now in charge of the team for a 17-day camp that started on Thursday. His last tenure was between May 2014 and April 2016.
